Repentance

The Hebrew Word Picture of "Repentance" is a stirring example of the depth of the ancient language. The word Shoov, (repentance) means to Burn The House Down, And Change The Kingdom.

This is interesting considering the message that broke the 400 years of silence in Matt4:17, "Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand."

We can not say that we have truly repented if we still have walls, and rooms to go back to. A true turning away, or changing of heart, as some modern definitions paint the word, can not happen if we are secretly longing for "the old house."

Just some thoughts.

  2. To Anonymous: I read the link, and it could lead into some interesting discussion, but that is not the purpose of this blog.. Comments are encouraged and welcomed but should also center around the "Thought for Today". If there is a specific comment that you would like to make because you read this blog and also read the blog you are referring to, and there is a common thread, feel free to do that.

  3. Maybe the repentance continues because we've burned down our main home, but we still have a vacation home, a condo on the beach or a cabin in the woods that we run back to and long for from time to time. I think the change of kingdom or change of address is very important. We need to recognize - We don't live there anymore!

  4. Julie, your comment also makes me think of "The Garden of our Soul".. Do we still have a weed patch in there somewhere, that we just can't let go??? When things get a little tough we tend to want to run back to it and give it a little watering...
